Applicants who are interested in a design-focused staging position should take the time to read this job posting carefully before applying. They are looking for candidates who have a background in staging, interior design, merchandising, or a similar field. If you lack this experience or do not have an eye for design, they ask that you refrain from applying.
The ideal candidate is capable of adhering to a design vision, contributing creatively in styling spaces, and working efficiently in a staging environment. If you do not have relevant design or staging experience, they are unlikely to consider your application.
For your application to be considered, you must include your resume detailing your relevant creative or staging experience and examples of your design, staging, or styling work, either in the form of a portfolio or photographs.
The opportunity is at Transition Home Staging – an award-winning company serving the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago. They specialize in staging both occupied and vacant properties with a fast-paced and detail-oriented team committed to creating spaces that help homes sell quickly and for top dollar.
The role offered is a Home Staging Assistant. In this position, you would support the Staging Team Leader in accessorizing and styling homes, carrying out hands-on staging and de-staging, and preparing and organizing inventory. The role begins with 5–15 hours per week but with the potential for increased hours and leadership opportunities as you demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and ownership in your work.
Your responsibilities would include assisting with the staging and de-staging of homes, sticking to the design vision of the Staging Project Leader, unpacking, placing, and styling accessories on site, and assisting with de-staging and breakdown.
You would also need to work in their inventory & warehouse: pulling and packing staging inventory, organizing accessories, and maintaining warehouse order, as well as carefully wrapping, transporting, and protecting staging items.
Setup and physical work are part of the job too – you will need to load and unload tubs of accessories, artwork, lamps, and sometimes small pieces of furniture. Hanging artwork, moving furniture within a home, climbing ladders if needed, and undertaking light cleaning tasks.
Required skills and qualifications include a background or demonstrated talent in home staging, interior design, merchandising, or styling. A strong eye for design, balance, color and proportion is a must. You must also be capable of following directions while contributing creatively.
Comfort with physical work, such as the ability to lift between 35 and 50 lbs, move furniture and staging items, is also necessary. You should have reliable transportation, with an SUV or larger vehicle preferred. A flexible schedule and the ability to work on short notice are also advantageous. Demonstrating strong teamwork, reliability, attention to detail, and basic tech skills (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) is a must.
What sets the ideal candidate apart is a natural, quick eye for styling and accessorizing, the ability to create clean, photo-ready spaces, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. A passion for design and real estate presentation are also desirable.
To apply, please submit your resume and a portfolio or examples of design/staging work. The pay starts from $20.00 per hour, benefits include a flexible schedule and a referral program.
