The small local home staging business based in Chicago is seeking a reliable Mover for their team. They typically have jobs one full day or two half days per week with the scheduling based on the team’s collective availability. They don’t operate on weekends and jobs are usually scheduled seven days in advance.
This involves moving furniture and accessories into homes for sale to make them more marketable. A mover in the team is critically responsible for safely and efficiently moving the business’ inventory. The role demands physical stamina, outstanding communication skills, and teamwork. Meticulously ensuring that no damages are done to the properties or to the items being delivered is paramount.
The moving involved in home staging differs from regular moving jobs because it only includes basic furniture pieces and a few bins of decor items and artwork. Pay includes travel time and lunch is provided during long work days. Working hours vary depending on the size of the homes.
All jobs originate and end at the warehouse located near the Kennedy from the Montrose exit, a few steps from CTA Blue Line and Bus Stop. Transportation during the day and lunch are included.
The Mover’s duties are carefully paying attention to team lead when packing items at the warehouse, packing the truck delicately to ensure stability of items, helping the owner with wrapping and folding soft items, loading and unloading items from the truck, avoiding any damage while navigating hallways and doorways at properties, and following the team lead’s instructions closely. The role also involves problem-solving skills for situations such as getting furniture around tricky corners.
Maintaining cleanliness and organization is a must in the warehouse, the client’s properties, and the vehicle and equipment used during moves. The Mover also collaborates with team members to ensure seamless operations, and if they can drive the box truck, they earn additional pay.
Physical stamina is a key requirement for the role, as it involves lifting heavy items and manual labor over extended periods. Positive attitude and good teamwork skills are essential. Previous experience as a mover is preferred. Reliability is very important – inconsistency in attendance may result in not being asked to work again.
This contract/temporary position offers a pay rate of $21.50 – $22.50 per hour and expected to work for 5 – 12 hours per week. The flexible schedule is perfect for someone looking for consistent work with flexible days and no weekends.
The position is on-site, and work days are from Monday to Friday, with no weekend work.
