About this role
Impact Interior Design Solutions is hiring an Experienced Interior Designer in Troy, MI. This role combines design expertise with sales responsibility, where the designer owns the full client relationship from initial contact through project completion. The position requires proven ability to convert presentations into signed contracts and deliver projects on budget and on schedule. Impact Interior Design Solutions operates as part of a larger group serving the Metro Detroit area since 2004, with Impact Home Staging Experts recognized as Michigan's largest and oldest home staging company. The firm maintains a strong local brand presence backed by hundreds of five-star Google reviews, multiple years of Best of Houzz awards, and regular features in regional print publications and digital platforms including Houzz, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok.
The designer will manage multiple aspects of client relationships and project delivery:
- Identify and pursue high-potential clients including affluent homeowners, realtors, builders, investors, and commercial clients through consistent outreach across phone, email, CRM systems, social media, events, and in-person meetings
- Conduct client intake and discovery conversations to understand how clients live or work, budget constraints, timeline needs, style preferences, and functional requirements
- Lead in-home and virtual consultations designed to move clients toward decisions rather than simply creating mood boards
- Present design options, incorporate feedback, and obtain written approval before proceeding
- Develop and deliver fee proposals and cost estimates with clear visuals, defined scope, timeline, investment details, and specific next steps
- Handle client objections with confidence, including concerns about pricing, timing, decision delays from household members, competitive shopping, and scope changes
- Request the business directly and collect retainers or deposits upon closing
- Identify upsell opportunities appropriate to client needs, including premium materials, custom furnishings, lighting, home staging services, and related offerings
- Listen carefully to translate client tastes, lifestyle, and functional needs into practical, buildable plans
- Measure spaces and assess existing conditions including light quality, traffic flow, architectural features, and applicable building codes
- Create space plans, mood boards, sketches, CAD drawings, 3D visualizations, and material boards to support client decision-making
- Select finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, custom millwork, and color schemes using color theory and strict budget discipline
- Source vendors, secure pricing and lead time information, and maintain specifications within approved budgets
- Manage the day-to-day role of Interior Designer and Project Manager from signed agreement through installation
- Create project timelines, place material orders, and monitor lead times to stay on schedule
- Coordinate with contractors including painters, electricians, carpenters, and installers, with regular site visits to monitor progress
- Identify and resolve problems when materials are delayed, damaged, or fail to meet specifications
- Research building codes, accessibility standards, and permit requirements that affect design decisions
- Produce drawings and specifications that contractors can build from accurately
- Manage budgets and timelines without compromising finish quality through project close-out
- Build and maintain client and vendor relationships to generate repeat work and referrals
- Request referrals from satisfied clients and cultivate industry partnerships that produce ongoing introductions
- Keep CRM systems current with all client and prospect interactions
- Mentor junior designers or coordinate small teams when projects require additional support
- Engage with the company's marketing team to generate social media content that produces inquiries, including before-and-after photos, process documentation, Reels, carousels, and project stories
- Photograph completed work or coordinate professional photography so the company and designer's personal brand have current portfolio evidence
- Use social media platforms for follow-up and relationship-building with past clients and prospects
- Maintain regular outreach to past clients so repeat and referral work becomes the default outcome
- Maintain punctuality and professional presentation on every consultation and job site visit
Qualifications and expectations include strong sales ability demonstrated through contract conversion rather than a sales title, proficiency in design software and CAD or equivalent tools, ability to create detailed specifications and manage complex projects, comfort handling client objections and negotiating outcomes, and a professional demeanor representing the brand consistently. The designer will fill a calendar with qualified prospects, document discovery conversations with complete information on budget, timeline, style, function, measurements, and existing conditions, and convert presentations into signed contracts and collected retainers.
Impact Interior Design Solutions provides studio facilities, warehouse support, vendor relationships, and brand marketing infrastructure to support the designer's business development and project delivery.
