Cathy Hobbs Design Recipes is hiring an Entry Level Interior Designer/Stylist in New York, NY. This full-time position launches a design career with one of the nation's top-ranked home staging firms, offering the chance to work directly with an award-winning team while building a professional portfolio on luxury real estate projects in Manhattan.
The role involves multiple hands-on responsibilities across field visits, warehouse operations, and staging installations:
- Attend property walkthroughs alongside real estate agents to identify styling and design requirements
- Create styling plans and pick sheets, selecting inventory from the firm's curated warehouse collection
- Lead and participate in staging installations across luxury homes, vacation properties, and short-term rental units
- Apply design concepts through furniture arrangement, accessory placement, artwork selection, and editorial styling
- Collaborate with team members on creative projects and contribute design ideas
- Photograph and document completed work for portfolio building and social media
Candidates should meet the following qualifications:
- Hold a degree in interior design, home products, visual merchandising, or related field, or demonstrate equivalent hands-on styling experience
- Actively participate in job site work, warehouse operations, and installation activities
- Demonstrate strong organizational and communication abilities
- Take direction effectively while showing independent initiative
- Function productively under pressure as a team member
- Reside in one of New York City's five boroughs
- Be comfortable handling furniture and executing layout designs
- Prior visual merchandising or home decor styling experience is preferred but not required
The position runs Monday through Friday, with staging work primarily in Manhattan and work-from-home days when not on installations. Employees travel to the company's Highland Passive House headquarters in the Hudson Valley approximately once per week, with round-trip transportation provided. Compensation is $23 to $24 per hour for a full-time role. Candidates must live within the five boroughs of New York City and be authorized to work long-term in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
